Refine Text & Brainstorm Mode
Not every AI feature is about adding new nodes. Refine Text helps you improve the wording of existing nodes, while Brainstorm Mode opens an interactive panel for exploring ideas from different angles.

Refine Text
Refine Text takes the current text of a node and asks AI to improve it. The AI considers not just the text itself, but also its context within your mind map, to produce wording that fits naturally.
How to Use It
- Select a node by clicking on it.
- Right-click and choose AI > Refine Text.
- AI processes the node’s text and returns a refined version along with 2-3 alternative phrasings.
- Review the options and choose the one you prefer, or keep the original.
What Refine Text Does
The AI improves your node text in several ways:
- Makes it more concise — Cuts unnecessary words while keeping the meaning intact.
- Improves clarity — Rephrases awkward or ambiguous wording so the meaning is immediately clear.
- Polishes the tone — Adjusts the text to sound more professional, precise, or natural depending on the context.
- Offers alternatives — Provides 2-3 different phrasings so you can choose the one that best captures your intent.
When to Use It
Refine Text is especially useful for:
- Polishing node titles before sharing or presenting your map
- Making text more concise when nodes feel wordy or cluttered
- Improving clarity when a node’s meaning is not immediately obvious
- Finding the right words when you know what you mean but cannot quite express it
- Standardizing language across your map for a more consistent feel
Context-Aware Refinement
The AI does not refine your text in isolation. It looks at the surrounding map structure — the parent node, sibling nodes, and the broader topic — to ensure the refined text makes sense in context. A node labeled “Implementation” under a “Software Architecture” branch will be refined differently than the same word under a “Business Strategy” branch.
You can use Refine Text on any node at any time. It is non-destructive -- your original text is always shown alongside the suggestions, and you can dismiss the refinement if none of the options are better than what you already have.
Brainstorm Mode
Brainstorm Mode is an interactive AI-powered brainstorming panel that helps you explore a topic from multiple perspectives. Instead of generating nodes automatically, it presents ideas that you can selectively add to your map.
How to Use It
- Select a node you want to brainstorm around.
- Right-click and choose AI > Brainstorm.
- An interactive brainstorming panel opens.
- Choose a thinking mode (see below).
- AI generates ideas based on the selected mode and your node’s context.
- Review the ideas and add any you like directly to your map as child nodes.
Thinking Modes
Brainstorm Mode offers four distinct thinking styles, each designed to surface different kinds of ideas:
Creative
Focuses on unusual connections, innovative approaches, and out-of-the-box thinking. Use this mode when you want to break free from conventional ideas and explore unexpected possibilities.
Best for: innovation, product ideation, finding novel solutions, creative projects.
Practical
Focuses on actionable, realistic, and implementation-focused suggestions. Use this mode when you need ideas that can be executed right away with available resources.
Best for: project planning, process improvement, task breakdowns, operational decisions.
Critical
Focuses on challenges, risks, counterpoints, and potential pitfalls. Use this mode to stress-test your ideas and identify weaknesses before they become problems.
Best for: risk assessment, decision evaluation, proposal review, due diligence.
Exploratory
Focuses on open-ended questions to investigate further. Use this mode when you want to deepen your understanding of a topic rather than jump to conclusions.
Best for: research planning, topic exploration, preparing for deep dives, early-stage investigation.
Working with Brainstorm Results
After AI generates ideas in your chosen thinking mode:
- Browse the ideas in the brainstorming panel.
- Add ideas you like to your map by clicking the add button next to each idea. They are added as children of the selected node.
- Skip ideas that are not relevant — just leave them unselected.
- Run another session with a different thinking mode to get a fresh perspective on the same topic.
Multi-Mode Brainstorming
One of the most powerful ways to use Brainstorm Mode is to run all four thinking modes on the same topic. Each mode surfaces a completely different set of ideas:
- Start with Creative to generate innovative possibilities.
- Switch to Practical to ground those ideas in reality.
- Use Critical to identify risks and challenges.
- Finish with Exploratory to find questions worth investigating.
This gives you a comprehensive 360-degree view of any topic, covering possibilities, implementations, risks, and unknowns.
Run all four thinking modes on the same topic to get a comprehensive, 360-degree view. Creative gives you possibilities, Practical grounds them in reality, Critical finds the risks, and Exploratory reveals what you do not know yet.
