Summarize Branch

Summarize Branch analyzes an entire branch of your mind map — the selected node and all of its descendants — and generates a concise summary. It is the fastest way to understand what a large or complex branch contains without reading every node.

How to Use It

  1. Select a node that has children (the more descendants, the more useful the summary).
  2. Right-click and choose AI > Summarize Branch.
  3. AI analyzes the full branch structure and generates a summary.
  4. The result includes an overview paragraph and a list of key points.

What the Summary Contains

The AI produces two parts:

  • Overview — A paragraph that captures the essence of the entire branch, explaining what it covers and how the pieces fit together.
  • Key Points — A bulleted list highlighting the most important items, themes, or takeaways from the branch.

The summary respects the hierarchical structure of your map. Top-level children are treated as major themes, while deeper nodes provide supporting details. This means the summary reflects not just the content, but also the organization of your thinking.

When to Use It

Summarize Branch is especially valuable for:

  • Getting a quick overview of a large branch you have not looked at in a while
  • Preparing presentations by generating talking points from your map structure
  • Understanding complex structures when a branch has grown large and unwieldy
  • Sharing context with others who need to understand a branch without reading every node
  • Reviewing your work to check if the structure captures everything it should

Working with Summaries

After the summary is generated, you can:

  • Copy the summary to your clipboard for use in documents, emails, or presentations
  • Add it as a note to the selected node for future reference
Tip

Summarize Branch works best when your branch has a clear hierarchical structure. Well-organized branches with descriptive node titles produce the most useful summaries.

Generate Questions

Generate Questions asks AI to create thought-provoking questions about the selected node’s topic. These questions help you think deeper, challenge assumptions, and discover gaps in your thinking that you might have overlooked.

How to Use It

  1. Select a node you want to explore further.
  2. Right-click and choose AI > Generate Questions.
  3. AI generates a set of questions about the topic.
  4. The questions are added as child nodes of the selected node.

Types of Questions Generated

The AI generates questions in several styles to push your thinking in different directions:

  • “What if…?” questions that explore hypothetical scenarios and alternative approaches
  • “Why…?” questions that dig into underlying reasons and motivations
  • “How might…?” questions that focus on practical approaches and methods

These question types are designed to cover the breadth of critical and creative thinking, from challenging the status quo to imagining new possibilities.

When to Use It

Generate Questions is particularly powerful for:

  • Challenging assumptions — Surfaces questions about things you may have taken for granted
  • Exploring gaps — Reveals aspects of a topic you have not addressed yet
  • Preparing for Q&A — Generates the kinds of questions an audience or stakeholder might ask
  • Deepening analysis — Pushes you beyond surface-level thinking into more nuanced territory
  • Research planning — Identifies questions worth investigating before you start

Working with Generated Questions

Since questions are added as child nodes, you can work with them like any other nodes:

  • Answer questions by adding child nodes under each question
  • Delete questions that are not relevant to your focus
  • Rearrange questions to prioritize the ones most worth exploring
  • Generate more questions by running the action again on a different node
Tip

Use Generate Questions before a meeting or presentation to prepare for tough questions. The AI often surfaces angles you would not have thought of on your own, giving you time to prepare thoughtful responses.

Auto-Complete

Auto-Complete provides AI-powered text suggestions while you are editing a node. As you type, the AI analyzes the context of your map and offers completions that fit naturally.

How It Works

  1. Start editing a node by double-clicking it or pressing Space on a selected node.
  2. As you type, suggestions appear based on the context of your map.
  3. Accept a suggestion to complete the text quickly.
  4. Continue typing if none of the suggestions are what you want.

What Makes It Context-Aware

Auto-Complete does not just complete words in isolation. It considers:

  • The text you have already typed in the current node
  • The parent node’s topic to keep suggestions relevant to the branch
  • Sibling nodes to avoid suggesting duplicates of what already exists
  • The broader map structure to maintain consistency in naming and terminology

When It Helps Most

  • Maintaining consistency — Suggests text that matches the naming conventions used elsewhere in your map
  • Saving typing time — Completes longer phrases and common patterns so you can move faster
  • Staying in flow — Reduces the mental overhead of finding the right words while you are building out your map
Note

Auto-Complete requires an active internet connection and a configured AI API key, just like all other AI features. Suggestions may take a moment to appear depending on your network speed and the selected AI model.
