What Themes Change
A theme controls the overall visual appearance of your editor, including:
- Canvas background — the color and pattern behind your nodes
- Node colors — default fill and border colors for new nodes
- Connection lines — the color and style of lines connecting parent and child nodes
- Text colors — the default text color inside nodes
- UI accents — selection highlights, hover states, and other interface elements
Every element updates instantly when you switch themes, so you can preview the look without committing to it.
Free vs. Pro Themes
The free tier includes 2 themes to get you started. Upgrading to Pro unlocks all 17 themes, giving you the full range of light, dark, vibrant, and minimal options.
| Plan | Available Themes |
|---|---|
| Free | 2 themes |
| Pro | All 17 themes |
How to Change Your Theme
- Open Settings from the menu bar or toolbar.
- Navigate to the Theme section.
- Browse the available themes and click one to preview it.
- Your selection is applied immediately.
You can also use the theme selector in the toolbar for quick access without opening the full settings panel.
Light and Dark Themes
Notemap includes both light and dark themes. Light themes use bright backgrounds with darker node colors, while dark themes use deep backgrounds with lighter or high-contrast node colors.
A few examples of what you will find:
- Light themes — clean whites, soft pastels, warm neutrals
- Dark themes — deep grays, rich blacks, muted tones with bright accents
- Vibrant themes — bold, colorful palettes for visual thinkers who want energy on the canvas
- Minimal themes — stripped-back designs that keep the focus entirely on your content
Each theme has been designed to be comfortable for extended use, with careful attention to contrast ratios and color harmony.
Theme Scope
Your theme selection is a global setting that applies across your editor. Every mind map you open will use the currently selected theme, giving you a consistent visual experience as you switch between files.
Try a dark theme for evening work sessions to reduce eye strain. Dark backgrounds with softer node colors are much easier on the eyes in low-light environments.
Choosing the Right Theme
There is no wrong choice, but here are a few guidelines:
- For long writing sessions, pick a minimal or muted theme that will not fatigue your eyes.
- For brainstorming, a vibrant theme can add energy and make branches visually distinct.
- For presentations, choose a high-contrast theme so your audience can easily read the map.
- For focus work, a dark theme with subtle colors removes visual distractions and keeps you in the zone.
Experiment freely — switching themes is instant and non-destructive. Your content stays exactly the same regardless of which theme you use.
