Rich Notes

Every node in your mind map has a title, but sometimes a few words aren’t enough. Rich Notes let you attach detailed, formatted content to any node, turning your mind map into a powerful knowledge management tool.

Opening the Details Editor

There are several ways to open the rich notes editor for a node:

  • Keyboard shortcut — Select a node and press Shift+E
  • Right-click menu — Right-click a node and choose Add Details
  • Bottom toolbar — Click the document icon in the bottom toolbar to open the details panel

The details panel opens alongside your mind map, giving you a split view where you can see your map and edit notes at the same time.

Formatting Options

The rich text editor supports a wide range of formatting to help you structure your notes clearly:

  • Bold and italic text for emphasis
  • Headings from H1 through H6 for organizing sections
  • Bullet lists for unordered items
  • Numbered lists for sequential steps or ranked items
  • Blockquotes for highlighting important passages or citations
  • Code blocks for snippets, terminal commands, or technical references
  • Links to external URLs and resources
  • Images embedded directly in your notes

Automatic Saving

Your notes are saved automatically as you type. There is no need to manually save or worry about losing your work. Every change is persisted to your mind map file in real time.

The details editor supports slash commands for quick formatting. Type / on a new line to see all available commands:

AI Writing Assistance

Within the details editor, you can use AI to help with your writing:

  • AI Write — Type /aiWrite to prompt AI to generate content based on the node context
  • AI Continue — Type /aiContinue to have AI extend your existing text
  • Text selection actions — Select any text in your notes and choose from: Improve, Make Shorter, Make Longer, or Fix Grammar

These features help you draft, polish, and expand your notes without leaving the editor.

Visual Indicator

Nodes that have rich notes attached display a small indicator icon on the node itself. This makes it easy to scan your mind map and see at a glance which nodes contain additional details without opening each one.

Best Uses for Rich Notes

Rich notes work well for a variety of scenarios:

  • Meeting notes — Use the node title as the agenda item and the notes for discussion points, action items, and decisions
  • Research summaries — Capture key findings, source links, and quotes in the details panel
  • Detailed descriptions — Expand on ideas that need more than a short label
  • Code snippets — Store relevant code with syntax-friendly formatting using code blocks
  • Reference links — Collect URLs and resources related to a specific topic
Tip

Use the node title as a concise summary and the rich notes for the full content. This keeps your mind map clean and scannable while preserving all the detail you need.
