Attachments
Keep all your reference materials together with your ideas. Notemap lets you attach files directly to any node, so supporting documents, images, and resources live right where they are most relevant.

Attaching Files to a Node
There are two ways to attach a file:
- Right-click menu — Right-click a node and select Attach File, then choose a file from the file picker
- Drag and drop — Drag a file from Finder directly onto a node in your mind map
Both methods work with any supported file type and immediately associate the file with the selected node.
Supported File Types
You can attach a variety of file types to your nodes:
- Images — PNG, JPG, GIF, and other common image formats
- Documents — PDF files, text files, and rich text documents
- Other files — Virtually any file type your system supports
How Attachments Are Stored
Attached files are stored locally alongside your mind map file within your workspace. This means your attachments stay with your data and do not depend on any external service. When you move or copy a mind map folder, all attachments come with it.
Visual Indicator
Nodes with one or more attachments display an attachment icon, making it easy to identify which nodes have supporting files. You can quickly scan your map to find all the nodes that carry additional materials.
Image Thumbnails
When a node has a single image attachment, a thumbnail preview is displayed on the node. You can customize how the thumbnail appears by right-clicking the node and choosing from the Image Style submenu. This lets you control the size and layout of the image preview on the node.
Opening Attachments
Click on an attachment to open it in the default application for that file type. For example, a PDF opens in Preview, an image opens in your preferred image viewer, and a text file opens in your default text editor.
Removing Attachments
If you no longer need a file attached to a node, you can remove it through the node inspector. Right-click the node, open the inspector, and remove the attachment from there. The original file on your filesystem is not deleted when you remove an attachment from a node.
Attachments are stored within your workspace folder. If you use a cloud sync service like iCloud Drive or Dropbox for your workspace, your attachments will sync along with your mind maps.
Attach reference materials directly to the relevant nodes to keep everything organized in one place. Instead of hunting through folders for that one PDF or screenshot, you will find it right where the idea lives.
